About Uncertain
Uncertain, Texas has about 100 residents, the most beautiful name of any town in the state, and the best secret in East Texas: Caddo Lake. The only naturally occurring lake in Texas (created by a massive logjam on the Red River in the early 1800s), Caddo is a labyrinth of bayous, Spanish moss-draped cypress trees, and black water that looks and feels more like Louisiana than Texas. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful places in the state.
Things to Do
Caddo Lake Boat Tour
The only way to truly experience Caddo Lake is by water. Guided tours navigate the cypress maze by motorboat or pirogue, passing through tunnels of Spanish moss, past lily pad meadows, and into secluded bayous where alligators sun on the banks. This is one of the most unique experiences in Texas.
Caddo Lake State Park
The park offers paddling, fishing, hiking, and camping along the lake's western shore. Kayak rentals are available. The dawn light filtering through the cypress forest is something that stays with you.
Caddo Lake Institute Property
A conservation organization protecting the lake's unique ecosystem, with educational programs about the Caddo people and the natural history of the lake.
Fishing
Caddo Lake is world-famous for largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. The complex of bayous and cypress roots creates ideal habitat that has made this a destination for serious anglers for generations.
Where to Eat
Caddo Grocery & Café
The only real restaurant in Uncertain — cold beer, fried catfish, and a front porch overlooking the lake. Simple, honest, perfect.
Uncertain General Store

“The town is named "Uncertain" because when it was being established, surveyors were uncertain whether the land would be in Louisiana or Texas. The Texas side won — but the name stuck.”
