About Wimberley

Wimberley sits at the confluence of Cypress Creek and the Blanco River, and the water defines it. Jacob's Well — a perpetual karstic spring plunging into the aquifer — has been a swimming destination since the Tonkawa people called this land home. Today the town draws artists, retirees, and weekenders from Austin and San Antonio who come for the swimming holes, the laid-back vibe, and the surprisingly excellent local shopping.

Things to Do

1

Swim at Jacob's Well

A 12-foot-wide natural spring that drops straight into the Edwards Aquifer. The water is a constant 68°F and crystal clear. Reservations are required and fill up fast — book as far in advance as possible. The swimming area is shallow but the well itself goes deep into the earth.

2

Blue Hole Regional Park

The Cypress Creek swimming hole that launched a thousand Instagram posts. Shaded by 200-year-old cypress trees, this City of Wimberley park has a rope swing, a gentle current, and water that sits around 68°F all summer. Passes are required during peak season.

3

Browse the Village

Wimberley Square is packed with galleries, jewelers, boutiques, and crystal shops. The town has an outsized arts community, and the Saturday Market Days (first Saturday, April through December) turn the square into one of the best outdoor markets in the Hill Country.

4

Corral Theatre

An outdoor drive-in-style theater that's been showing movies since 1949. Catch a double feature on summer evenings under the Hill Country sky.

5

Hike Wimberley Valley

The rolling hills around town offer hiking at Lone Man Mountain and through the Hill Country Mile trail. The views across the cedar-studded limestone ridges are quintessential Texas.

Where to Eat

🍽️

Leaning Pear

Farm-to-table seasonal cuisine sourced from local Hill Country farms. The patio overlooks Cypress Creek — get a table outside.

🍽️

Cypress Creek Cafe

Breakfast and lunch staple with legendary eggs benedict and house-made pastries. Expect a wait on weekends.

🍽️

Ino's Kitchen

Wood-fired pizza and Hill Country wines in a relaxed indoor-outdoor setting. Easily Wimberley's best pizza.

🗺️ Getting There

45 miles southwest of Austin via RR 12. About 60 miles north of San Antonio.

📅 Best Time to Visit

Spring and fall for perfect weather. Summer is the swimming season but brings crowds. Reserve swimming hole spots months in advance.

🤠 Did You Know?

Jacob's Well was once so powerful it flowed continuously for centuries — but over-pumping of the aquifer has caused it to go dry during droughts. Conservation efforts are ongoing.
